"The bearded lady" sings,
but the show's not close to over
Out's Jason Lamphier spent a day with model/muse Andre J., who landed on the cover of French Vogue last year in his full bearded, bejeweled glory.
The photographic trail of evidence (by Dulce Pinzón) is up at Out.com, and here are a few delightful choice quotes that didn't quite make the cut:
> At evening tea downtown with photographer-artist Mark Borderud and producer Kim Jackson, Borderud presents photos he took of Andre last summer, shots of him wearing angel wings and posing in a garden. "Andre, to me, is like a mythological character," Borderud says. "He's so expressive and free. You never see mythology in an urban setting."
> He often wears wigs, but nowadays Andre prefers to keep his 24-inch-long mane straight. "It's sexy and current," he explains. "I want 36 inches." He quickly adds that he isn't a size queen.
> On why he has recently become more interested in fine art than fashion: "Art is timeless. A Fendi bag is of-the-moment, but art gets better with age. When you move, are you gonna take your Basquiat or your Jimmy Choos?"
