Quickies: Ferragamo's boutique, iPhone's mischief-maker and Top Design's "Elves"

> Ferragamo opening men's only boutique, J. Crew to follow: With men's shopping a rare bright spot in the current economic climate, the Italian style luxe brand is out in front of the trend. Designed as a pseudo-bar/gathering place for discerning male shoppers from 20 to 40 years old, the store ignores the tried and tested "purse and pumps" format of most locations and opts for a more clubby vibe.

> "I Am Rich" iPhone application lures 8 buyers: The creator of $1,000 download says, "I regard it as art," but the joke program does nothing but download an image of a multifaceted ruby.

> Top Design has gone to the "Elves": Top reality TV producers known as the "Magical Elves" have taken over the workshop at Top Design, where they've installed a new host for the new season. Though the Elves helped put Project Runway on the map, they won't be making the leap to Lifetime with Tim and Heidi -- they inked a mega-deal with NBC.

Apple's iPhone 3G Launches: Chaos Ensues

Iphone3g_trio_2

For Apple junkies, today should feel like Christmas: The new iPhone 3G goes on sale! People have lined up overnight for their chance to get their hands on the new handset that promises to revolutionize smart phones once again—at least until Google unleashes Android.  Unfortunately, many iPhone users were left feeling like they were dumped on Valentine's Day. In addition to the crazy long lines at AT&T and Apple retail stores to get the second-gen phone, many people haven't been able to activate their new favorite gadget because Apple's activation servers have crashed under the overwhelming demand.

Even people using the first-generation phones are feeling the sting. When I woke up today, I was excited to sign up for MobileMe and download the new iPhone software that promised to let me use the new App Store. Unfortunately, once I upgraded the software, my phone crashed. So, after trying to restore the phone, it couldn't log onto the iTunes store to activate the new software. So, I'm at work, with an expensive brick with no access to my music, calendars or contacts. I hope I my meeting with the Pope wasn't scheduled for today!

Rumor has it that the servers should be back up and running in a few hours. Your Stylelist's advice? Don't upgrade your software today. Wait until the rush calms a bit.

Thanks, Apple!

ELLE Vandalized! Apple Overhauls iMacs! Louis Vuitton Cancels China Run! Men Shop Online! Electricity-Generating Clothes!

Elle magazine's green issue was vandalized by sticker-happy environmental activists. Somehow, they managed to get "retraction" stickers placed in a story called "The Believers." The stickers claim the story includes factual inaccuracies.[Folio

Louis Vuitton has postponed its "China Run" car rally that was supposed to take place at the end of May because of anti-French sentiments (including boycotts of stores, etc.) in China since French politicians spoke out in support of the Dalai Lama. Will the French pull out of the Olympics next? [WWD]

Electricity-generating clothes? Sounds a bit like Star Trek, but shaking your ass on the dancefloor will keep your favorite gadgets charged. What will they think of next? [Engadget]

Louis Vuitton Goes Floral; Daft Punk Does Playboy; Tom Ford Wants to be a Daddy; Topshop Arrives in US; Apple's Computer Confuses TSA

Louis Vuitton is getting into the floral business! Well, sort of. The luxury goods company is selling white fabric roses in Japan to honor White Day in Japan—sort of like the White Party but fewer drugs and muscle Marys. But these roses feature the LV monogram on one of the petals . And you thought a dozen red roses were expensive. Maybe something was lost in translation. [Fashionista ]

Playboy tapped Daft Punk, Iggy Pop and The Shins to overhaul the iconic bunny logo for a line of limited edition t-shirts. A Playmate will make an appearance at Bloomingdale's tomorrow to make sure the hornball teenagers fork over their lunch money. [The Cut]

Tom Ford dishes on Gucci, his designs on fatherhood with his boyfriend and death being the ultimate retirement. How can you not love this man? [Fashion Week Daily]

Topshop is coming! Topshop is coming! The first stateside flagship of the British cheap-chic retailer that is sure to give H&M a run for its money will open in SoHo in October. The store is hiring now. If you're a cheap bastard, you can get a discount on the already cheap clothes. [The Cut]

Apple Announces That it Will Sell Air...Gadget Geeks Froth at Mouth

In the gadget world, size does matter, but like a runway model, slimmer is better!

Apple daddy Steve Jobs announced the super-sleek MacBook Air—the anorexic slim MacBook that is only .76" thick at its widest point and an impossibly thin .16" at its narrowest. Also included is a 13.3" screen, 80gig hard drive, wifi, 2gig memory, 1.6ghz or 1.8ghz Intel Core2Duo processor The Air is the thinnest notebook available on the market and it can even slip into a large envelope for some James Bond-esque covert operations.

Apple has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to innovation and it seems that the next wave of laptops won't require a CD or DVD drive because we are quickly becoming a download-only culture—of course, you can buy an add-on external CD player if you need. Apple was one of the first—if not the first—to sell laptops without floppy disk drives. But the question remains: Without a CD drive, how would we get our next OSX upgrade?

Your Stylelist ran into Hedi Slimane, the former Dior Homme designer, at the Apple Store in Soho on Sunday. He was buying the new operating system. I was too shy to take a photo with him or let on that I recognized him while we were chatting. He's so cute and doe eyed in person. Designers. They're just like us! (Hedi! Call me!)

Apple Steals Spotlight from Fashion Week

Ipodtouch Photo: Courtesy of Apple.

Perhaps the folks at Apple missed the spotlight after the iPhone hype died down, but on the first day of Fashion Week, the company announced some big news!

The iPod got a massive makeover. If you missed out on iPhone mania because you are locked into your mobile plan until 2010, here's your chance to get a piece of the action.

Taking a page from the iPhone, the new iPod Touch uses the same touchscreen technology to browse music, photos and video. It offers a 3.5" widescreen display,  wi-fi capabilities and measures just 8mm thin. With wi-fi comes the Safari internet browser, YouTube videos, Google Search, Yahoo! oneSearch, and the ability to wirelessly download music from the iTunes Store. Basically, it does just much of what you can do on an iPhone, just without any phone capabilities.

Also announced today, Apple signed an exclusive agreement with Starbucks Coffee Company to allow people to access the iTunes Store at no charge over the company's wi-fi system. When entering the store, the iPod touch will recognize the store's wi-fi system and tell you which song is playing and allow you to buy and download it immediately from iTunes.

That's not all! If you've been pinching your pennies for the iPhone, Apple is cutting the price of the 8 gigabyte model by $200 for the holidays. They are also phasing out the 4 gigabyte model.

8 gigabyte iPod Touch, $299
16 gigabyte iPod Touch, $399
