The Fred Perry 100 Year Polo

LO Blue Polo[7]

Frederick John Perry would have turned 100 this year. But since the man is gone and the label is not, how better to commemorate the birthday than with a limited edition of one of his signature looks: the polo. The Fred Perry Centenary Shirt has that same Perry cut and color we've come to expect, but with just a tweak of design detail -- an enlarged 16 leaf laurel with the centenary embroidery placed underneath.

LO Black Polo[7]

The Fred Perry Centenary Shirt retails for $95 and can be found at the Fred Perry Soho store in New York, Neiman Marcus in Dallas, Citizen Clothing in San Francisco and other selected retailers around the country.

Berlin police officers have been banned from wearing certain labels due to Neo-Nazi associations. Off limits are Fred Perry, Ben Sherman, ACAB, Alpha Industries, Consdaple, Lonsdale, Pit Bull, Outlaw, Troublemaker, and Thor Steinar. The labels are, understandably, not happy with the bad publicity. [WWD]

The bane of the white shirt's existence is surely the yellow pit-stain left after washing. Here's how to get rid of it! [Fabsugar

Who's been spotted in Paris at the men's shows thus far? Kanye of course, debuting his new LV shows. Also John Malkovich at the Wintle show, and a slew of French actors at Emanuel Ungaro, including Jean-Marc Barr. [WWD]

First Malcolm McLaren DJed the Dior Homme show, now he's writing a musical based on the label. Casting for "The Life and TImes of Christian Dior" will be finalized in New York. Sounds chic. [WWD

In other denim news, Rick Owen's denim line, Dark Shadow, has teamed up with Eastpak for fall. The collection will featured roughly 15 bag styles in charcoal, "greige" and black and also include a women's and men's raincoat in rubberized cotton. [WWD]

Open for business: Fred Perry in NYC's Soho.

Smell this: Brave by Diesel. Their first solo men's fragrance will come in a bottle meant to look like Diesel founder Renzo Rosso's tattooed hand. [WWD]

Dress Codes: Fred Perry

Some styles never die, but few can be named true classics. Take Fred Perry's iconic, laurel-adorned polo shirt. No other casual shirt enjoys a such rich heritage throughout fashion history. Fred Perry shirts reigned supreme in just about every fashion circle and style moment in the UK since the creation of the brand. In fact, Fred Perry might be the only common ground among cute country club prepsters, skinheads, mods, and chic celebrities over the ages.

One thing that Mr. Perry probably didn't count on was the appeal of the shirt to the gay fetish community.  Some gay guys with an affinity for skinhead fashions get decked out in their favorite  gear for a night at the local leather bar and advertise their preference for certain activities by carefully choosing the color of their stripes on their favorite polos. Could this be the return of the Hanky Code from the 70s when gay men wore handkerchiefs of different colors in their back pockets to advertise their bedroom repertoire and preferences in a mate?

Of course, this doesn't mean that if you're not into getting a little freaky in the bedroom that you can't wear the yellow- or red-striped polo. I just wouldn't recommend wearing it to the leather bar or you'll get a quick lesson in sex ed.
