The gayest of the gays came out Friday night for the 14th annual Out 100, and while the party raged on with the designers, stylemakers, entertainers and artists of the year working the crowd and the open bar, your faithful Out bloggers were working hard to bring you the inside scoop to what was undoubtedly the night's hottest party (seriously -- you should have seen this crowd!).
In addition to our oh-so-witty online staff, guest bloggers were on hand throughout the night to give you their party-goer perspective of speakers, performers and award winners. Among them: T Cooper, Ari Shapiro, Adele and, yours truly, Seth from Stylelist.
It was an ultra-classy affair full of fun, fashion and fa -- well you get it. Congratulations to all our honorees and thanks so much to everyone who made it a great night! Until next year...
Though we generally like to maintain our exclusivity here at Stylelist
-- top tier events aren't for everyone, ok? -- sometimes it's fun to let the
laymen in.
Tonight we're going to give you an all-access pass to the Out 100 gala launch party. Starting around 8 p.m. eastern time, go to Out100.out.com
to eavesdrop on celebrity arrivals, get gossip and blogging direct from
VIPs, see backstage photos and -- well, whatever else happens.
Please join us for an elegantly queer evening as we celebrate this
year's honorees. (And please pardon if we go radio silent for the rest of the
day as we finish primping and preening for the party -- this is Stylelist remember.)
As Out prepares for its 14th annual Out 100, our unashamedly subjective list of the gay men and women who moved
culture -- ours and the culture at large -- over the past year, The Styelist brings you, among the artists, activists, athletes, and aesthetes embodying triumph, daring,
ingenuity, and integrity, the Designers who made this year's list.
With the likes of Christian Siriano, Todd Oldham and Tommy Fazio making the, uh, cut, this year's honorees are the fashionistas, the trendsetters and the style icons who are paving the way for any and all stylish men, gay or straight, who give a damn about making statements.
Check out the Out.com homepage for the complete list and a behind-the-scenes video of the retro-glam photo shoot featuring all of Out's Designers, and the rest of the 2008 Out 100. Also, don't forget to pick up a November issue of Out magazine or click through the Out100 blog for every other LGBTitillating detail of 2008's honors.
Over the last 20 years, 2008 Out 100 honoree Todd Oldham (seen here with Miriam Browning-Nance and Laura Virella) has left his hip, casual mark on the world of style.
From heading his own fashion line to collaborating with companies
as diverse as FTD and La-Z-Boy, there are few areas into which the designer hasn't ventured.
Currently the creative director for Old Navy, you can catch Oldham
regularly dispensing his savvy style know-how on The Today Show and Bravo's Top
Design, where he serves as a mentor to the contestants.
Back in the day Todd was a big fan of DIY projects (remember when he turned that pair of Doc Martens into sandals on MTV's House of Style back in the early '90s?) and not much has changed since then. Here's an adorable clip of him teaching Amy Sedaris how to make tiny decoupage tables (because who doesn't need one of those?) on Homemade Modern:
The gay telephone tree is buzzing about the new season of Project Runway which premieres tonight on Bravo! From everything we've heard—and all the contestants we met at the Out 100 party last Friday (Hi Jack & Christian!)—this season is set to be the best yet!
Here's what Tim Gunn, Project Runway daddy and reality TV star, told our lovely and talented celebrity interrogator Shana on the Out 100 red carpet about this season:
Q: What are you wearing tonight?
A: Hugo Boss. I'm a classicist at heart and Hugo Boss has that classic design witha modern edge. I need that modern edge. I can now afford it. I've had a great year. While I'm not flush in cash, I can finally afford a great suit.
Q: You couldn't afford a great suit while working for Parsons?
A: God no. It was sad. I couldn't afford great clothes even though I was the dean of the fashion department.
Q: Are you breaking any of the style rules from your own book? A: Good question. Let me think. I'm sure I am. Rules are made to be broken. You have to take the guidelines and make them your own. Wear things with confidence and people will begin to believe it.
Marc Jacobs has caught a lot of flack lately for his so-called "mid-life crisis." But at last week's Out 100 party, he spoke to our own Popnography Princess Shana on the red carpet about why he hit the bottle—the bottle of punky color—and started his blue period!

After weeks of teasing you with bite sized bits of gossip about our Out 100 honorees, we're just hours away from tonight's awards! The final countdown has begun and in the spirit of things, we've got a first look at the gorgeous Out100 cover featuring Jennifer Hudson, Mary-Louise Parker, Thom Browne, Bill T. Jones and Bryan Batt.
Your StyleList will be front and center and channeling his inner Cojo while reporting on all the fashion hits and misses. And don't miss my sassy sister Shana working the red carpet and heckling celebrities with probing questions.
We'll be live-blogging during the event with all the gossip, so point your browsers to the Out 100 blog tonight! The show starts at 8, but the blogging begins the moment the first person steps their designer shoes on the plush red carpet.
Fashion darling Thom Browne has racked up a number of mantle-worthy awards (i.e. CFDA Award for Menswear), but now, he can add one more: Out 100 Stylemaker of the Year.
Not only did Mr. Browne spark a revolution in menswear with impeccably-tailored, quirky ankle-baring, slim suits that launched a thousand imitations, but he also breathed new life into the esteemed Brooks Brothers brand, which had become staid beyond die hard fans over 50 and Wall Streeters.
His designs brought suits and martini-drinking, empowered men back to the forefront of American fashion when whole cities were awash in distressed denim (cough, cough, L.A.) and metrosexual adrogyny. So stylish are Mr. Browne's clothes that his suits are easily identifiable amidst a sea of ill-fitting two-button suits that plague high-powered and clueless executives.
The Out 100 is so close it's nipping at our heels! There's still time to cast your vote for the Out 100 honorees of the future! That's right. Which celebrity offspring will grow up to become a member of the Out 100 list in 2027? This is democracy at its finest. No stuffing the ballot box, kiddies.
Your StyleList reviewed the past Out 1400 honorees and took attendance of all the fashion designers between 1994 and 2006. Curious to find out who made the cut? Hope on over to the Out 100 blog for a fashion reunion. Lucky for you, someone spiked the punch.
Who has made the Out 100 list most? Here's a tally of our students who made the honor roll more than once:
Marc Jacobs - 5 Tom Ford - 4 Todd Oldham - 4 John Bartlett - 3 Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared - 3 Giorgio Armani - 2 Karl Lagerfeld - 2 Michael Kors - 2 Robert Duffy - 2
